Reviews from some happy readers…

From Joanne

We ordered BIrmingham Boy from Dune and it arrived yesterday, a World Book Day gift for my grandson. He's 6 and it was a great opportunity to talk about issues such as faith and homelessness in a child friendly way He really enjoyed it. It's a beautiful book and you should be so proud.❤ He's shown it to his teacher online for World Book Day, so fingers crossed his school might be interested.

From a mum of 5

I loved every last bit of it. I love the many points that one can discuss with children. I think this book has come at the right time. There is a desperate need for books like these to educate people about life as a Muslim boy of colour. I loved every page. The illustrations are fantastic. This book will be very welcomed in schools and in all homes everywhere. Brilliant!

Sabera - School Teacher

As a teacher and a parent of two mixed-heritage children, this is a much needed book for every classroom and family bookshelf. The rhyming style and beautiful pictures make the story and moral engaging and accessible. As a Brummie who moved away over a decade ago, the wonderful representations of the vibrant city, tugged at my heart-strings. For schools, this is a perfect fit for their pupils' spiritual, moral and cultural development as well as fitting into a PSHE curriculum. I am sure this will be a book that my family will be reading again and again.

Heather, mum of 4

Lovely story for all ages children and fantastically illustrated. Captured all four of my children’s attention, and they enjoyed looking and talking about the pictures.

Mandy - Preschool Teacher

A one of a kind book for children and very important in introducing differences, tolerance and understanding the world element of the EYFS as well as British values. A beautiful glimpse into the life of a young Muslim boy of colour and his mum. I believe this book is a must for all early years settings and primary school as it gives a visual opportunity to discuss race and social justice as well as a tonne of other things. We love the colourful vibrant illustrations which draw children further into the heart of the story.

Shabana - Secondary school teacher

Birmingham Boy is an excellent story that is well written in language that is appealing to children. The illustrations provide a great accompaniment. As a secondary school teacher in Birmingham, I have been impressed with the diversity in the book and the wider themes including homelessness. On a more personal note, I have bought it as gifts to my nephews and nieces of varying ages from one upwards. My one year old nephew absolutely loves having it being read to him and exploring the pictures. It’s lovely that he can relate to the faces in the book.
